Rural Development

The Carnegie UK Trust established a Commission for Rural Community Development in 2004 in the light of significant political, environmental and economic challenges affecting rural areas. The Commission's work completed in 2007 and the findings are contained in the report A Charter for Rural Communities.

Another key milestone in the rural development work was the publication of The Manifesto for Rural Communities- Inspiring Community Innovation - a publication which captures the findings from a large scale five year Rural Action Research Programme (RARP) that brought together some forty partners from across the UK and Ireland funded by the Big Lottery Fund to examine how communities can be supported to take forward new ideas. A summary of this work can be viewed on the left.
