A New Chapter - public library services in the 21st century

The Trust has published the findings of research into public attitudes to and use of libraries throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
The Trust argues that public libraries can’t stand still in a changing world. Library services and buildings need to respond to the challenges and opportunities of reduced public spending, the digital age, and changes in lifestyles.

The report is available in the following formats:

  • A full report of the research and the Trust’s review of policy in the five jurisdictions
  • A short discussion paper in which we set out the main issues which we believe need to be addressed in this area.
  • 5 factsheets detailing findings from each of the five jurisdictions (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland)
