Carnegie UK launches 'Global Rules, Local Rulers'

06/01/2012

The Carnegie UK Trust today launched ‘Global Rules, Local Rulers’, a new project for 2012 that explores the inter-relationships between UK advocacy groups, citizens, and Intergovernmental Organisations (IGOs) that regulate trade, markets and consumer policy.

Using the World Trade Organisation as a test case, the Trust will be undertaking primary research to gauge citizen attitudes to IGOs and their regulatory roles. It will also be studying citizen awareness of the voluntary sector organisations that influence the institution, and seeking to identify civic engagement and participatory best practice from those leading NGOs in the field.

The project is at the centre of the Trust’s 2012 focus on the economic experience, understanding and connectedness of citizens in the UK and Ireland.

Research findings will be published for wider discussion and debate in the summer. For more information on this project, see the Enterprise & Society pages of the Carnegie UK website which can be found here.
