The Carnegie UK Trust, which established and funded the independent Commission as a part of its Democracy and Civil Society Programme, has welcomed the publication of the Making Good Society report.
Chair of the Trustees, Melanie Leech, said:
“I would like to thank the Chair and Commissioners for their time and for sharing their deep understanding and insight into civil society. The Commission’s discussions have made an important contribution to the debate over how individuals and organisations can shape their communities and nations for the better in the twenty first century.
The Trust is now looking forward to studying this report in detail and to contributing to the important debate which should flow from its key messages and recommendations.”

NOTES TO EDITORS
The Carnegie UK Trust works to develop evidence-based policy to support beneficial change for people living in the UK and Ireland.We are one of over twenty foundations worldwide endowed by Scots American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Our current core workstreams are around:
- democracy and giving new hope to people who feel powerless about policy;
- examining the role of not-for-profit “civil society” and whether its time for the voice of the grass roots to be heard in political and business decisions; and
- supporting people in rural communities to take charge of shaping their futures.
