Jim Metcalfe, Head of Practice and Development

Jim joined Carnegie UK in 2011 as a senior policy officer, after ten years’ experience in research, communications and project management.

In 2012, he was appointed as the Trust's practice & development manager, and is now head of practice & development.

Jim's work focuses on finding and delivering practical innovations drawn from the Trust's policy work, and developing new partnerships with other organisations and agencies.  

Previously Jim worked as a researcher and manager for MPs Gordon Brown and John Healey, as well as in posts in the voluntary sector and corporate public affairs. He read history at Oxford University and was an executive member of the Oxford University Student Union.

In recent years he has represented Carnegie UK on expert panels and advisory boards for Inspiring Scotland, ACF Northern Ireland, Defra, the Scottish Government and Parliament, the European Commission, and the Global Philanthropy Forum.

In 2014, Jim was appointed a Trustee and Director of the UK Energy Saving Trust Foundation and as a member of the UK Council of the Centre for Local Economic Strategies.

He lives in Glasgow with his wife and children Rosa and Ally.
