In 2005, the Carnegie UK Trust stopped its small grants programme. Below are a list of grants that were awarded prior to this decision. Please note that we are no longer a reactive grant giving Trust.

Age Concern Oxfordshire

to ensure that rurally isolated older people have access to services and help to identify their needs and ensure these are met.

Annandale and Eskdale Council for Voluntary Service Scotland

to support the training of 150 women who have been involved in Network West’s pilot project ‘Daisy Chain’ providing education, training and job opportunities for rurally isolated women.

Arthur Rank Centre, Warwickshire

to extend the Hidden Britain community tourism project to the rest of the northern region of England.

Arkleton Trust Scotland

to set up a series of 15 regional seminars across Scotland, to develop a Scottish Rural Community Network which will link rural communities with the rural development organisations which support them.

BLS Lifelong Learning Trust (Breadalbane Virtual Learning Centre), Strathyre

to purchase computers and install satellite broadband connections in the local village halls, to promote community learning opportunities.

CADISPA (Conservation and Development in Sparsley Populated Areas), Glasgow

to support the rural community development research project based in the Department of Community Education, University of Strathclyde.

Calstock Development Trust, Cornwall

to develop an information shop which provides a base for ICT facilities, a place for staff and volunteers to meet, and a drop-in facility.

Cromarty Hall Association, Orkney

to extend the village hall into a community/visitor centre providing a coffee shop, gallery and exhibition area, leisure facilities and information outlet for locals and tourists.

Debach Village IT Resource Centre, Suffolk

to improve a local IT Resource Centre set up and run by the local community.

Derbyshire Rural Community Council, Wirksworth

to develop the Rural Youth Project which aims to engage rurally isolated and socially marginalized young people in decision-making processes.

Internaional Association for Community Development, (IACD), Edinburgh

to support a development officer post to sustain and extend IACD’s rural community development activities.

Kirkby Thore Door Step Green, Penrith

to assist the local community with an environmental regeneration programme to develop an area of land as a community facility.

LGBT Youth Scotland, Edinburgh

to develop a network to support young people living in rural and remote areas, increase their involvement with local and national planning processes.

The Monitoring Group, Nottingham

to develop the Rural Racism Project, bringing together black and ethnic minority and refugee communities in rural areas to explore their daily living experience.

New Economics Foundation, London

to produce a Democs (Deliberative Meetings Organised by Citizens) kit on rural planning and housing. This is a tool for groups to discuss and give their views on public policy issues.

Newlyn Art Gallery, Penzance

to develop a website as part of the Farming Families project, which records their lives and experiences over a year using digital video technology.

PLANED – Pembrokeshire Local Action Network for Enterprise and Development, Narbeth

to develop a tool to encourage communities to better understand and become enthusiastic about local sustainable development.

Rural Community Network, Northern Ireland

to address the affect of territorial and cultural segregation in rural communities by supporting community organisations who own or manage community meeting spaces so that reconciliation and peace building work can be carried out.

Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations

to employ a specialist village halls adviser, as part of the rural team at the new Centre of Rural Expertise in Inverness.

Slaidburn Community Development Group

to develop a series of community led initiatives including the building of a new village hall.

Southern Uplands Partnership, Galashiels

to work with landowners and support rural communities in developing Communities on the Edge, an innovative project in the Scottish Borders aimed at matching ‘spare’ rural estate resources to local community-led enterprise.

Strathfillan Community Development Trust, Perthshire

to explore options for affordable housing; establish a cycle/walkway link between Tyndrum and Crianlarich; and run a range of community events.

Sturminster Newton Amenity Fields Group, Dorset

to develop a nature trail and educational resource, a safe route to and from the town and adventure playground.

Villages in Action Devon

to enable a programme of participatory arts workshops for young people in rural communities.
