Engaging Libraries programme open for applications
May 2, 2017
Applications are now open for our Engaging Libraries programme which will support public libraries across the UK and Ireland to deliver creative and imaginative public engagement projects on health and wellbeing.
The £150,000 programme is a partnership between Carnegie UK Trust and Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation that supports scientists and researchers to take on big problems, fuel imaginations, and spark debate. The initiative will provide funding and support to innovative public libraries to help them bring people together, sparking debate and creating conversations about health and wellbeing in local communities.
Applications are open from today, Tuesday 2 May, and will close on Wednesday 23 August at 5pm. The application pack is available from our website and contains extensive information about the programme’s aims, ethos and practicalities. The pack also explains the types of projects Engaging Libraries is looking for and includes case studies showcasing public engagement activities and help sheets on shaping your idea and connecting with relevant networks. Applications can be made using the online form.
Applicants must be public library services – but the programme has a strong emphasis on collaboration and encourages libraries to think about a broad range of potential partnership opportunities in the delivery of their projects.
Andy Wright, Carnegie Associate says: ‘Public libraries are known to provide a safe, trusted space at the heart of their communities and already make a significant positive contribution to the cultural and physical health of communities. Engaging Libraries provides the perfect opportunity for the public library sector to develop innovative public engagement activities around health and wellbeing topics and demonstrate its collaborative potential’.
As well as running applicant workshops (now full), we are also planning to run an online Q&A session to answer queries. Please follow @CarnegieUKTrust for more details to come. If you have any queries in the meantime, please contact the Carnegie UK Trust office on (01383) 721445 or email [email protected].
