Carnegie UK is a wellbeing organisation, set up over 100 years ago to promote collective wellbeing in the UK and Ireland. Over that time, wellbeing has meant different things to different generations, and we have continued to refine what we do.
In 2020, we launched our Gross Domestic Wellbeing (GDWe) index for England. GDWe offers a holistic alternative to GDP as a measure of social progress. Using the framework and data in the Office for National Statistics Measures of National Wellbeing Dashboard, we have developed – for the first time – a tool that provides a single figure for collective wellbeing in England.
In 2021, we re-examined our purpose and ways of working and launched our new Strategy for Change. GDWe remains a core focus of Carnegie UK’s work, and as we settle into the new strategy, we would like to gather stakeholder insights, feedback, and challenge about how we can develop our approach to the GDWe index going forward, specifically thinking about how we can ensure our approach has impact and remains aligned to our values. The deadline for proposals is 5pm on Monday 16 May.
