This short, summary report provides an overview of levels of high cost credit use and the provision of affordable credit across seven Scottish local authorities, reveals the gap between demand and appropriate supply, and puts forward a range of interventions available to local authorities that can support affordable credit providers and make a significant difference to the lives of low income individuals in their areas. It is accompanied by a full report which provides greater detail on the use of different types of high cost credit and affordable credit in each local area. These reports form part of the Trust’s work to support alternatives to non-mainstream high cost credit and provide options for those excluded from mainstream forms of credit.  The research fieldwork for this report took place before the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are already seeing those on lower incomes being affected the most by the financial impact of the pandemic.
