The pedagogue – an evening of discussion
Author: Children in Scotland
This report outlines the discussion at a seminar on pedagogy in Scotland. It was organised by Children in Scotland and Camphill Scotland, with the support of the Carnegie UK Trust and the Scottish Government.
It includes overviews of presentations by Professor Peter Møller Pedersen, of VIA University College in Denmark, one of the university colleges responsible for the 4,000 pedagogues who graduate in Denmark each year, and by Kate Skinner, Chair of Camphill Scotland, which supports children, young people and adults with a variety of additional support needs using an approach based on the principles of pedagogy.
There was no doubt among participants that the ‘essence of the pedagogue’ fits well with the person-centred services that the adult health and social care sectors want and need to deliver. The report concludes that the focus, moving forward, must be on how to develop the children’s sector workforce in a way that brings together all strands of the Scottish Government’s key policies.
